Aims of the Course
The course aims
to acquaint students with information systems analysis and design skills that
will enable them play an active role in the analysis, design and implementation
of multi-user systems to meet the information needs of an organisation.
Objectives of the Course
On completion of
the course, students should be able to:
- identify the information needs of various categories of information users;
- understand the role of systems analyst/designer in systems development;
- make appropriate selection of hardware and software for particular information systems; and
- Design an information system.
Course Content
- Identification of user needs
- Centralised systems versus distributed systems
- Data control methods: types of control, controls in on-line systems, programming control, file security and processing control
- Central database design, evaluation and management
- Systems testing and conversion
- Project planning and control
- Managing the systems and data processing areas
- Designing of interactive systems
- Information network analysis, design, evaluation and management
- Selection of hardware and software
